LIVE: Blue Origin New Glenn Rocket Launching NASA's Mars ESCAPADE Mission! (2025)

Get ready for an exciting space adventure! The countdown has begun for Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket to embark on a mission to Mars, and you're invited to witness this historic event.

On Sunday, November 9th, the powerful New Glenn rocket will launch NASA's twin ESCAPADE probes towards the Red Planet. This mission marks a significant milestone, as it's been over five years since NASA's last Mars expedition with the Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter.

But here's where it gets controversial... The ESCAPADE mission, costing a whopping $80 million, consists of two spacecraft named Blue and Gold, inspired by the school colors of the University of California, Berkeley, which will operate the mission for NASA. These spacecraft will embark on a complex journey, heading towards the Earth-sun Lagrange Point 2, a stable gravitational spot located a staggering 930,000 miles beyond Earth.

Blue and Gold will spend a year at this point, studying space weather, before looping back towards Earth in 2026. This intricate trajectory is carefully planned, as Earth and Mars align for efficient interplanetary travel only once every 26 months, and the next opportunity arises in late 2026.

And this is the part most people miss... Once the probes reach Mars, they'll spend approximately seven months carefully lowering themselves into precisely aligned orbits. Then, the real work begins as they gather data for at least 11 months. The orbiters will fly in formation, creating a 3D map of Mars's unique near-space environment, including its magnetic fields, upper atmosphere, and ionosphere. This mission aims to uncover crucial information about Mars's atmospheric loss and the conditions that could impact future human settlements on the planet.

The launch on Sunday will be the second for New Glenn, capable of carrying an impressive 50 tons of payload to low Earth orbit. The rocket made its debut with a successful test flight in January 2025, sending a prototype of Blue Origin's Blue Ring spacecraft platform into orbit. However, Blue Origin's attempt to land New Glenn's first stage on a ship at sea was unsuccessful, and they'll be trying again on Sunday, providing an extra layer of excitement for space enthusiasts.

So, mark your calendars and join the live stream to witness this historic launch! Will Blue Origin successfully land New Glenn's first stage this time? And what discoveries will the ESCAPADE probes make on Mars? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!
