Nomad's New Tracking Card Pro: Longer Battery Life, But at a Cost
Nomad has released an upgraded version of its popular tracking card, the Tracking Card Pro, with a significant improvement in battery life. The Pro model boasts an impressive 16-month battery life on a full charge, a substantial increase from the standard version's 5-month limit. While the Pro model is priced at $39, which is $10 more than the older model, Nomad offers a 10% discount when you purchase two.
However, the Tracking Card Pro isn't without its trade-offs. Its larger battery has made the card 2.5mm thick, a noticeable increase from the standard card's 1.7mm thickness. Despite this, it's still thinner than Apple's AirTags, which measure a bulky 8mm thick. The Pro model also weighs 15 grams, a slight increase from the standard card's weight.
Functionality remains unchanged, with support for Apple's Find My tracking network and the ability to trigger audible alerts when you're within 150 feet of the card. It also supports wireless charging and adheres to MagSafe or Qi2-compatible magnetic charging pads, thanks to its metal content.
Despite the Pro model's improved battery life, it may not be the best option for everyone. Pebblebee's Card 5 wallet tracker, available for $34.99, offers a more affordable alternative. It's thinner at 1.74mm, supports both Apple's Find My and Google's Find Hub networks, and boasts up to 18 months of battery life with wireless charging.
So, while the Tracking Card Pro is a welcome upgrade for those seeking longer battery life, it's essential to consider the trade-offs and explore other options that might better suit your needs and budget.
